Mallorca is stunning with many places you can choose to stay for all kinds of travellers including families. However there are select areas that are more family-friendly. So here is a list of the 5 best areas in Mallorca for families.

The best 5 areas in Mallorca for families with kids are Palma Nova, Camp de Mar, Cala Milor, Alcúdia and Port de Pollença. These areas have the most stunning beaches, with shallow waters suitable for all ages including tots. They also have several kids activities and family-friendly hotels with many amenities, making them ideal for family holidays.

Before I dive straight into the list of the best areas, here is a handy map showcasing kids activities all over the island for your reference. For more information about each activity, you can check out the article on kids activities in Mallorca. 

The resort areas featured on this page are close to the areas that have more kids activities and the best beaches. All the beaches have shallow water suitable for people of all ages including tots.

Additionally, these areas have some other activities that I will list. I will also mention the pros and cons of each area whenever required. Like this, you will have a more comprehensive understanding of what to expect for each location.

I will also include a short list of the best hotels with the most amenities for families. This is so as to save you invaluable time searching for options yourself, which for some areas are more challenging to find.

1. Palma Nova

Palma Nova is a lively resort area that caters well to families, situated in the southwestern part of the island. It has 3 beautiful beaches with calm waters, numerous restaurants, and a range of activities suitable for children.

In fact, most of the fun activities for children in Mallorca are located close to this area. Hence why Palma Nova is in the top spot as one of the best areas in Mallorca for families with kids.

• Katmandu Park
• Go karting
• Pirate Adventure Show
• Western Water Park
• Jungle Parc Junior

Marineland, Katmandu Park and the water park are fantastic places for kids where you can spend a whole day. Although they are somewhat expensive, Marineland and Katmandu Park in particular are definitely a hit with kids.

Katmandu is a fun theme park perfect for little ones and at Marineland you will get up close to different animals. Plus you get to see the sea lion, dolphin and parrot shows.

Palmanova beach is one of the best beaches in Mallorca. Not the most scenic and beautiful that I experienced, but still nice. A little further away you have Camp de Mar, the most stunning beach in Mallorca, the Genova cave and Palma the capital city.

Palma Nova is in the Serra de Tramuntana area so you get to enjoy the surrounding mountains. Since the area is lively some parts are noisy at night. Hence if you want somewhere quiet to retreat, you might prefer Camp de Mar which is next on the list.

There are a small selection of family-friendly resorts that have many amenities. The 2 hotels below are in line with the average price of you would expect to pay for a hotel with so many amenities.

The Aparthotel Ponent Mar is one of the best rated on this page. On the other hand the Leonardo Royal Hotel Mallorca is located within 10 minutes walking distance of Katmandu Park. Depending on the dates you select, the Aparthotel could cost around the same or be more expensive than the Leonardo.

2. Camp de Mar

Camp de Mar is also located on the southwestern coast of the island. It is between another two popular resort areas of Paguera and Port d’Andratx.

This resort town would be at the top of my list since Camp de Mar is the most beautiful beach in Mallorca. It offers a beautiful sandy beach, crystal-clear waters, and a stunning picturesque setting. In fact it is listed in the top list of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca.

Camp de Mar offers a range of resort facilities, including hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops, that cater to your every need. There are also several luxury resorts and spa hotels in the area, perfect for anyone seeking a more upscale holiday experience.

Camp de Mar is particularly popular among families and couples looking for a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. The beach is family-friendly, with shallow waters and plenty of space for sunbathing and beach activities.

As is common with Spanish beaches, there is even a tiny playground for children on the beach.

Additionally, the town is surrounded by natural beauty, with the Serra de Tramuntana mountains right behind and pine forests adding to its charm. Here is a picture of the street right behind the Camp de Mar beach.

Additionally for any golf fans, there is a golf course 3kms away.

Why Camp de Mar is Not at The Top of This List

There are 2 reasons why Camp de Mar is not at the top of this list for the best areas in Mallorca for families. Firstly it is around 15 minutes’ drive from the activities in Magaluf.

However this may be a good thing for some. Magaluf in particular is more lively and noisy at night whereas Camp de Mar is more peaceful and laid back. Plus if you hire a car, within 20 minutes you can quickly travel to Magaluf to enjoy the activities there. However by public transport it will take you over an hour to get there.

The Second reason is that Camp de Mar is known as one of the most expensive places to stay in Mallorca. This should not come as a surprise, because it is stunning. However if you can afford it and like the idea of a tranquil spot, then you should strongly consider Camp de Mar.

It was also one of the places I saw less women topless on the beach. Some people prefer modesty as it makes them more comfortable especially around their own children. So if this is you, then add this as another positive for selecting this area.

Best Resorts for Families in Camp de Mar

There are a small handful of resorts in Camp de Mar. They cater for different kinds of tourists including adults only ones. The ones for kids are not exceptionally rated like the ones I generally tend to recommend, but they do have good ratings. Here are the best ones for families in Camp de Mar with the most amenities.

Alua Gran Camp de Mar

You can see Alua Gran Cap de Mar in the first two images in this Camp de Mar section. It is the white building adjacent to the other resorts. It is the resort that has the most family-friendly amenities. Here is a selection of the most important things this resort offers for families:

Zafiro Palace Andratx

It slightly better rated than Alua Gran Cap de Mar, but has a little less amenities.

3. Cala Millor

Cala Millor is on Mallorca’s eastern coast which is far from the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. However the area has some large hills and mountains of its own. As a result it is a picturesque area, providing some lovely views from the Cala Millor beach as you can see from the image.

The beach there is beautiful with clear water that stretches over a mile. I personally enjoyed this area and it is fantastic overall for families. You can enjoy beach activities, rent pedal boats, or visit the nearby attractions.

The nearby attractions include:

• Safari Zoo
• Dinosaurland
• Drach Caves
• La Reserva Water Park
• Go Karting
• Horse riding

The Safari Zoo and Dinosaurland in particular are incredibly fun experiences. You get to see many animals up close at the Safari Zoo and the dinosaurs at Dinosaurland are life-size. In fact you can see the largest Dreadnoughtus dinosaur from the road as you pass by.

The Safari Zoo and Dinosaurland are perfect locations to spend the day out with kids in Mallorca. That also includes La Reserva water park.

Additionally the area has a pedestrianised promenade lined with shops, restaurants, and ice cream parlours. You can also rent a rickshaw and cycle along the promenade.

The beach here is not as stunning as Camp de Mar. However it is still beautiful, with many amenities and activities that makes for one of the best areas in Mallorca for families with kids.

Best Resorts for Families in Cala Millor

Since Cala Millor beach stretches for a mile, there are many hotels lined all the way along the beach. Additionally there are some that are recessed further back. However there are only a small minority that cater well to families with children.

Here are the best ones in Cala Millor for families that are easier to book.

Marins Playa

Marins Playa is one of the best places to stay in Cala Millor for families with kids. In fact it is one of the two resorts I mentioned on the 9 reasons why Mallorca is a Good Place to visit with kids. It has many great amenities and is not as expensive as other hotels. This is especially the case if you book well in advance.

Hipotels Cala Millor Park

Hipotels Cala Millor Park has similar amenities to Marins Playa, minus the indoor and outdoor play areas and mini golf. It also has themed dinner nights which the Marins Playa does not offer.

At times the Hipotels Cala Millor Park is more expensive and at times less expensive than the Marins Playa. It depends on the amount of rooms available at the time. However if you book well in advance the Hipotels tends to be more expensive.

Aparthotel Ciudad Laurel

The Aparthotel Ciudad Laurel has many of the same facilities as the 2 hotels listed above. However it does not have a games room, mini golf and proper wellness centre.

It is recessed further back from the beach and has overall good, but less favourable reviews than the hotels above. However it is less expensive with almost the same amount of amenities.

4. Alcúdia

Located on the island’s northeast coast, Alcúdia is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and stunning beaches. In truth, Platja d’Alcúdia was my husbands and my least favourite beach of Mallorca. It doesn’t sound like a great introduction, but don’t get me wrong, it is still lovely and one of the top 10 beaches of Mallorca.  

We personally preferred the Port de Pollença beach and in fact we visited it twice during our trip. It is only 20 minutes away by car from Platja d’Alcúdia, but if you use public transport it will take you 45 minutes.

The Alcúdia resort area has shallow waters, making it safe for young children to swim. Additionally, there are various entertainment options. It’s a perfect combination that makes Alcúdia one of the best areas in Mallorca for families.

Alcúdia has a charming and well-preserved old town area with a long history dating back to the Bronze Age. It has impressive medieval walls and a lovely narrow alleyways to see.

Alcúdia also has other activities more suitable for children. Such as the Hydropark water park, horse or pony riding, a petting zoo and playgrounds.

The area doesn’t offer as many activities as the Palma Nova area or Cala Millor. But there is enough to keep kids occupied for a while.

Best Resorts for Families in Alcúdia

There aren’t a lot of resorts that have a large list of family-friendly amenities close to Platja d’Alcúdia. There are more over in the Playa de Muro area further down. This area also has its own beach because it is actually an extension of Platja d’Alcúdia.

Here are 2 great resorts in Platja d’Alcúdia, after that I will also provide 3 options for Playa de Muro. Incidentally, although the hotels at Platja d’Alcúdia have kids clubs, they do not offer babysitting or child minding services. However two of the ones at Playa de Muro do.

Hotel Ivory Playa Sports & Spa and Hotel Condesa are two good hotels for families at Platja d’Alcúdia. Hotel Ivory Playa Sports & Spa is better rated than Hotel Condesa, but it is more expensive.

Additionally Hotel Condesa has better quality facilities for kids. They have 2 kids pools, one of which looks like that of a theme park and their children’s playground is nicer. Overall Hotel Condesa looks more fun.

Out of all the hotels in the Platja d’Alcúdia and Playa de Muro area, the Hotel Condesa and Grupotel Los Principes & Spa are the best value for money.

Best Resorts for Families for Playa de Muro

Grupotel Parc Natural & Spa is expensive especially during peak summer months. However it has the best rating out of all the hotels listed on this page.

The Iberostar Alcudia Park has a fun themed kids pool area. They seem to have focused their designs on making the place more fun. Hence although it is not as well rated and slightly less expensive than the Grupotel Parc it may be more worthwhile to stay in this hotel. Alternatively the Grupotel Los Principes & Spa is better value for money.

5. Port de Pollença

As mentioned earlier, Port de Pollença is in the north of Mallorca and not far off from Alcúdia. It is a charming resort town with a great family-friendly atmosphere.

The sandy beach here is gorgeous with shallow waters, perfect for kids. Additionally, because of the position of this beach, you get a 360 degree view full of mountains. As you can imagine it is quite something to see and one of the reasons why it is such a lovely picturesque area.

The beach is fairly long, but not as deep as other beaches. It has a lovely promenade that runs right behind it with many restaurants, shops and spots to buy ice-cream.

As mentioned you have to travel to other places for some kids activities. Not far off is the Formentor Peninsula which of course is not a kids activity, but well worth visiting. It offers the most spectacular mountain views of Mallorca from a vantage point up the mountains.

You could just stop at one of the scenic points in Formentor, or also move on to see more spectacular views. There is the watchtower located here, or you can keep going to check out the lighthouse located here. Here is what it looks like next to the watchtower:

Families that enjoy nature, can also visit the nearby S’Albufera Nature Reserve.

Best Resorts for Families in Port de Pollença

There are a few good family-friendly resorts in Port de Pollença. However they do not have as many amenities from hotels in other areas. The ones that have kids’ clubs do not have babysitting or child minding services and vice versa. So hence here is a selection of 3 family-friendly resorts for your different needs.

The most expensive is Hoposa Hotel & Apartaments VillaConcha which also happens to be the best rated. Mar Hotels Playa Mar & Spa has a really fun themed kids pool with a giant crab, squirrel and toucans.
